The “Microbial Metabolites and Chronic Pain” research axis explores the interactions between metabolites derived from the intestinal microbiota and the nervous system in the context of chronic pain. We are studying the role of the intestinal microbiota and its metabolites in the mechanisms of pain chronicization, in particular the involvement of the AhR/IL-22 pathway. We are also interested in the impact of microbial and/or tissue metabolites on the disturbances in “well-being” associated with chronic pain. Finally, we characterize new probiotics with anti-hyperalgesic potential, by evaluating their neuromodulatory power.
